With the glut of new technologies being released into the entertainment sector over the past few years it wouldn’t be long before the humble TV took advantage of these and became the dominant feature of the living room once more. Enter the LE40N73 from Samsung, and all singing, all dancing HDTV with some serious screen inches to boot.
When the TV arrived on my doorstep I was somewhat overwhelmed at its size. Seeing these large screened units in the store is one thing, but having one making its way down your very narrow hallway is quite another, and it became very apparent that it might not fit within the living room (shame then that the only place this 40” behemoth would fit was by bedroom!).
The size of the unit is only a problem when you’re in close proximity, within about 6 or 7 feet of the screen can rapidly make your eyes tired, but this will be the same for all TV’s this size.

If you happen to like gadgets and folding paper, you’d have been pretty annoyed by the Origami project, but if you are a regular tech-head, these handheld little blighters were the talk of last year, and we got our hands on the first proper one to hit these fine shores…the Q1 from Sammy.
We won’t get into the why’s and why-not’s of the UMPC market here, because, if you can see the point you only want to know about the machine, and if you can’t, then you really need a lot more convincing than I can give here to part you with best part of a grand.

We venture into reviewing one of my personal favourite areas of gadgetry and technology; the aftermarket automotive sector with this new head unit CD player from Fli – the Swat 5.
This audio system was plugged into RandomlyAccessed’s previous project car, and we have to say the sound it produced was staggering. When launched into a system comprising of different branded products it performed much better than the more expensive head unit housed in the DIN slot before it.
In fact the 4×50W output was enough to produce sounds that had even us modified car aficionados impressed, working well in tandem with the subwoofer and amplifier in the boot.

When you’re out on the course, walking, you normally need something small and light to lug your Mashies and Niblicks about, but when in a cart or testing your club selection at the range, you need a bag that can hold everything you require for a day of play. The latest innovation in the power-tool arena comes from DIY stalwart Black & Decker with their Alligator chainsaw-inspired loppers. We look at them and see whether they are as fierce as their namesake.
I first got to use these when cutting down larger portions of a tree outside of my own house, and I must say they impressed me immensely.
The job certainly didn’t require petrol chainsaw, but was far too difficult for a pair of normal loppers, so the Alligator got a good run out, and cut down vast portions of branches, roots and even the trunk of a small bush.
It was then very effective in the cutting up of the larger pieces of wood when they needed to be packed into bags for dumping.

When you while away your hours lending a helping hand to people in their DIY and building related troubles, you need some serious kit to show you mean business. That’s why I was thrilled when Black and Decker gave me a run out with one of their finest 18v cordless examples, the HP188F3.
Like any tradesman will tell you, 18v is the perfect point between economy and power, and is the voltage of choice of many a cordless work-sites.
The 188F3 certainly doesn’t let you down on the power front, with settings from all over the spectrum, as well as screwdriver and hammer settings thrown in for good measure as well.
It sports a 1.7Ah battery in the base of the unit, and a spare one in the sturdy carrying box in case you run out of juice.
Over the course of my time with the unit, I only had to recharge a couple of times on each battery and the time spent waiting for one to finish its charge cycle was not long at all.

We like cooking here, I’m also quite good at it, so we managed to get the latest pans series from cooking legends Tefal, the Soho range.
As with all pans from Tefal they sport the infamous Thermospot technology, supposedly telling you when it’s good to cook, however, for most uses I have never used this to instruct me when to cook, so it’s slightly wasted on me personally, however you might be able to use it.
