PSP finally gets GPS

January 9, 2008 · 1 Comment

One of the majorly lacking features of the PSP was the no-show of a GPS unit for it, as it is, after all, about the right size, should always be with you (according to Sony at least…), and has a very nice screen to deal with all of that 3D mapping goodness.

So its a couple of years late to the game, but finally (well, sometime in Spring) we’ll be able to plug in the GPS unit (no, not built in) and go for a wander. Maps are stored on the obligatory UMD disc, and there will be car adaptors and mounting units available in higher priced packs.

It should run you €150 when it hits soon, about bloomin’ time as well!

Any more Sony news this morning? There is…but it’s rather mundane like Blu-Ray selling over a million movies in Europe taking a 73% market share, oh and PS3 firmware 2.10 has been announced. Along with the news that Skype is coming to the new, slim, PSP (but not the older version).

Sony denies 40% failure rate of 40GB PS3

January 9, 2008 · Leave a Comment

From the horses mouth:

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) can categorically deny that there is a 40% failure rate on the newly release 40GB PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3) as has been reported on a Dutch website. Having launched in October, the 40GB PS3 has encountered the same industry leading, very low failure rates, comparable to the low level failure rates of the 60GB PS3.

“We are very proud of the quality and reliability of PLAYSTATION 3 and are disappointed that such extremely sloppy journalism has resulted in this totally inaccurate story,” said David Reeves, President, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. “Since launching the 40GB PS3, we have experienced a fantastic jump in sales and the failure rates have remained at the very low level that we not only strive for, but have been achieving since the launch of PS3.”

iTunes Standardized Pricing in Europe

January 9, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Apple has finally announced plans to bring standardised pricing to Europe after taking a stand saying that they will “reconsider its continuing relationship in the UK with any record label that does not lower its wholesale prices in the UK to the pan-European level within six months.”

This sounds like good news, and Steve Jobs (Apple CEO) was equally thrilled: “This is an important step towards a pan-European marketplace for music, we hope every major record label will take a pan-European view of pricing.”

We still have no idea on pricing yet, but will in the next 6 months anyway!
